Michael Hooks
Managing Director
Michael Hooks is a Managing Director of Black Canyon. Prior to founding
Black Canyon, Mr. Hooks was the Co-Head of the Los Angeles Investment
Banking Department of Credit Suisse First Boston. Prior to CSFB, Mr.
Hooks was a Managing Director in the Los Angeles office of Donaldson,
Lufkin & Jenrette. Mr. Hooks began his career in the Beverly Hills
office of Drexel Burnham Lambert.
Throughout his investment banking career, Mr. Hooks specialized in
complex financings, restructurings and other advisory assignments,
with a strong expertise in leveraged finance. Mr. Hooks’ experience
spans a wide variety of industries, including media, retail, healthcare,
consumer products, industrial services, hospitality and basic manufacturing,
among others.
Mr. Hooks currently serves on the Board of Directors of Logan's Roadhouse,
Malibu Boats, Switchcraft, and TASI Holdings, and has previously
served on the Board of Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology (NYSE: PV). Mr. Hooks
received a degree in Economics from Princeton University and an M.B.A.
with distinction from the Wharton School of Business.
Mark Lanigan
Managing Director
Mark Lanigan is a Managing Director of Black Canyon. Prior to founding
Black Canyon, Mr. Lanigan was the Co-Head of the Los Angeles Investment
Banking Department of Credit Suisse First Boston and a member of
the Investment Banking Executive Board. Prior to CSFB, Mr. Lanigan
was the Head of the Los Angeles office of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
Mr. Lanigan started his investment banking career in the Beverly
Hills office of Drexel Burnham Lambert.
Throughout his investment banking career, Mr. Lanigan provided corporate
finance and advisory services to a broad range of industries, with
an emphasis on negotiating, structuring and financing leveraged acquisitions,
recapitalizations, restructurings and mergers on behalf of private
equity firms and their portfolio companies.
Mr. Lanigan currently serves on the Board of Directors of Malibu Boats
and Virgin America Mr. Lanigan graduated summa cum laude,
Phi Beta Kappa with a major in Economics from Colgate University, received
his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and his M.B.A. from Harvard
Business School.
Tom Barber
Principal
Prior to joining Black Canyon in 2005, Mr. Barber served as a Vice
President in the Investment Banking Division at Credit Suisse First
Boston, where he executed leveraged buyouts, debt and equity financings
and M&A transactions across the media, business services, retail,
restaurant and consumer products sectors, among others. Prior to Credit
Suisse First Boston, Mr. Barber was employed at JW Childs Associates,
a leveraged buyout firm in Boston, and JUMP Investors, a venture capital
firm based in Los Angeles. Mr. Barber began his career in the Los Angeles
office of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette’s Investment Banking
Group.
Mr. Barber serves on the Board of Directors of Logan's Roadhouse,
Archway Marketing, Triton Media and Grenax Broadcasting II. Mr. Barber
graduated magna
cum laude from
the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Political
Science and a minor in Business Administration.
Desmond Henry
Principal
Prior to joining Black Canyon in 2005, Mr. Henry was a
Vice President in Merrill Lynch’s European M&A Group in London, where he executed
numerous transactions for clients across a variety of industries including
chemicals, financial institutions, general industries, media and real estate.
Prior to his move to London in 1999, Desmond was a member of Merrill Lynch’s
Technology M&A Group in San Francisco. Mr. Henry graduated from the
University of Southern California with a B.S. in Finance.
Paras Mehta
Principal
Prior to joining Black Canyon, Mr. Mehta served as a Vice President
in the Investment Banking Division at Credit Suisse First Boston. In
that capacity, Mr. Mehta executed leveraged finance, M&A and other
corporate transactions in the media & telecommunications, gaming & lodging,
technology, energy and industrial services sectors.
Mr. Mehta currently serves on the Board of Directors of Virgin America
and TASI Holdings. Mr. Mehta received
a B.A. summa cum laude in Mathematics from Harvard University
and a master’s degree in Philosophy from Oxford University, where
he was a Marshall Scholar, and was a Ph.D. candidate in Economics
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Cameron Reilly
Principal
Prior to joining Black Canyon in 2007, Mr. Reilly was an investment
professional with the Yucaipa Companies, where he was responsible for
sourcing, executing and monitoring private and public equity investments
in the retail/consumer, distribution/logistics and media industries. Prior
to Yucaipa, Mr. Reilly was employed with Sentinel Capital Partners,
a middle market private equity firm, and Vantage Oncology, a provider
of leading-edge radiation oncology services. Mr. Reilly began
his career with Salomon Smith Barney (now Citigroup) in New York and
London, executing a broad range of M&A and capital markets transactions
in the Health Care and Media/Telecom spaces.
Mr. Reilly received his M.B.A. with Honors from UCLA Anderson and graduated magna
cum laude from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania,
where he was also a member of their nationally ranked wrestling program
and co-captain of their Sprint Football program.
Wayne Wilson
Vice President
Prior to Black Canyon, Mr. Wilson worked for Credit Suisse First
Boston in Los Angeles where he focused on general corporate finance
and arranged numerous public and private financings. He received his
B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California at Los
Angeles.
Alex Kowell
Associate
Prior to joining Black Canyon, Mr. Kowell was an Analyst for Merrill
Lynch and Barrington Associates, both in Los Angeles. He received his
B.A. cum laude in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University.
Eric Singer
Associate
Eric Singer joined Black Canyon Capital in November 2007. Prior
to joining Black Canyon, Mr. Singer was an Analyst in Deutsche Bank’s
Real Estate, Gaming, Lodging and Leisure Group in New York. He
received his B.B.A. from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the
University of Michigan.
Chris Vroman
Associate
Prior to joining Black Canyon, Mr. Vroman was an Associate at UBS Investment
Bank in Los Angeles. Prior to that, Mr. Vroman was employed with RKO Pictures,
where he focused on entertainment finance, and Scient Corporation and Andersen
Consulting (now Accenture), where he advised companies across multiple industries
on business strategy and business process execution. Mr. Vroman graduated summa
cum laude with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University and
received his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business.
Bradley Spencer
Chief Financial Officer
Prior to joining Black Canyon in early 2008, Mr. Spencer was responsible
for accounting, finance and operations for Rustic Canyon Partners, a
venture capital and private equity firm in Santa Monica. Prior
to Rustic Canyon, Mr. Spencer held the position of Corporate Controller
of Mellon Financial Corporation’s West Coast region as well as
Mellon 1st Business Bank, a middle market bank, specializing in small
to mid size businesses and high net worth clients. Mr. Spencer received
his B.S. in Business Administration and Economics from California State
University at Northridge.
